Paroles de This Is How We Tell Time [In The City]

In this city, the lights only provide just enough light to keep you going, or enough to break through the blinds to remind you that your feelings are never going to matter to anyone but yourself. I swear I'd rather fall asleep forever than wake up on a cold, moonlit night in a cold, moonlit sweat again. It seems I've found insanity when I've come to fashion a life in my head that will never exist where I am. Why do I spend so much time sharpening these knives if I'll only use them to tear myself apart?

I remember when we listened to the radio and everything just seemed so black and white. If we can't have solace we'll settle for silence, and I'll just fade away.

In this city, the streets are never quiet. They provide the backdrop as I try to imagine you, miles away, and if you ever wondered if things could have been different like I do.
I remember when we listened to the radio and everything just seemed so black and white. If we can't have solace, then we'll settle for silence, and I'll just fade away.

These days, it's always raining. If this is it, let's celebrate it. I propose a toast to all our insecurities, and let's hope that tonight, we don't find sleep. But tonight, I'll run down these streets looking for answers, and eventually I'll just spark into flame. I'll become a torch, the brightest light in the city, burning only for you. Newspapers will catch and burn, and brush fires will spread, and not even the approaching wind, rain, and thunder can put me out. And I'll just hope that you're not thinking of me, and hoping that I'm not burning while thinking of you. You know I do.
